Hi everyone,
Stupid question here. Is it possible that upgrading my fuel pump will make my car faster? I have a 1970 Skylark with a 455, headers, cam, Q-Jet. I just replaced the existing fuel pump which was probably the stock, non-Stage fuel pump. It was on the car when I bought it. In an effort to whittle down potential failures due to not knowing how old some of the parts are on the car, I thought I should upgrade the fuel pump to the TA street/strip pump. After installing the pump, the car feels noticeably faster, although I don't know if it's my imagination or not. I didn't think an upgraded fuel pump would give me more power. I just wanted to replace a part whose age I didn't know, and I wanted to make sure it was big enough for future upgrades. I figured that as long as the old pump kept the carburetor bowl filled, I was getting all the gas I could use with my current combination and a new pump wasn't going to add anything other than reliability. Thanks in advance for your help.
