MAY 12-16, 2009 - The GS NATIONALS - The granddaddy of them all is the annual GS Nationals, open to all Buick-powered vehicles. The dates are May 12th thru 16th in Bowling Green, Kentucky at Beech Bend Raceway. We have gone every year since 1988 as a vendor. Once again, we will be set up in our usual spots. We will have a large array of used parts, many priced at $25 or less. Pete Hoffman will also be there with lots of parts. Richard Clark will also be with us.
For more info on this event, check out their website - www.buickgsca.com - Once their home page comes up, click on GS Nationals. Various headings will appear including hotels, registration info, etc. They should have the various rules for each race class posted as well as the figures for payout for TSA class we have listed below. You can also find more information on turbobuick.com Click on message board and scroll down to Racing Rules and Discussions. Look for the heading for TSA Rules and Regulations. Click on that heading and all the info that has been posted will appear.
ZDDPlus™ is also one of the 2 major sponsors for this year's F.A.S.T. events along with Nationals Parts Depot. This is another nationally recognized event that features stock appearing muscle cars.
I have been informed that on Tuesday the gates open at noon and Buick's have full use of the drag strip from 3 pm until 5 pm. At 5 pm the track will also be open to the local racers for Test and Tune. Buick racers are permitted to stay on and race until the usual closing time on Tuesday, which is between 9 and 10 pm. It gives Buick racers a chance to race against the local racers. The fee for Tuesday is $5 for spectator and $5 to race. That must be paid, even if you are just dropping off your trailer or equipment.

*SPECIAL NEWS - GS NATIONALS FILM
Andrew Filippone Jr. will be filming a feature-length documentary about the Grand National and, specifically, how a car born of such undistinguished circumstances became one of the fastest production vehicles in the world in the late 1980's.
And a bit about his goals/objectives while at the GS Nationals:
- Filming Grand Nationals on the track and witnessing their speed.
- Filming in the vendor areas, to see how the Grand National community sustains these 20+ year-old cars.
- Filming the car show, both to see pristine examples of individual Grand Nationals and also to meet dedicated owners.
- Interviewing GN owners, suppliers, and fans, to learn what makes the GN special and why it continues to hold people's attention.
- Also, to help set context, capturing the sights, sounds, and overall spirit of the GS Nationals.
The documentary will first be submitted to national and international film festivals. Later, private screenings will be offered to relevant car clubs and owners' groups. Commercial distribution opportunities will also be sought via television broadcast and DVD/online film sales.
The role of the GS Nationals footage: the footage he gathers at the event will not necessarily be the foundation of the documentary, since there will be: scenes with owners at their homes; scenes at car museums and historical archives; interviews with auto journalists, designers, engineers, and historians; and historical videos and photographs collected from official General Motors archives. However, the GS Nationals will likely be the only large-scale event in the film and will represent the vibrant and vital community surrounding Buick and, especially, the Grand National.

GS NATIONALS BOWLING GREEN KENTUCKY
We will have the new reproduction grilles and headlight bezels available at a special price at the GS Nationals. Paul Castle of World of Motorworks (he had them reproduced) will also be there.
Paul will be set up with Casper's Electronics (who did the plug and play harness for the new GNX style dash cluster). This gauge cluster is top notch and is the closest dash you will see to the original GNX dash. I believe they will be set up across from us at the GS Nationals. Paul will also have embroidered trunk kits available that you can have installed at the event. You can contact him at - zddplus@womw.net - or 630-669-1583.
Pete Hoffman as well as myself will be set up with a huge array of used parts, and also some of the Grand National travel chairs. Richard Clark will be in our space as well. If you have any technical questions or powermaster brake issues, he is the man to see. We will also have ZDDPlus™ available at a show special price in quantities.
Hope to see you there!
