The Corvette ZR-1 club hapened to be in BG holding their annual get together
at the museum. I bumped into them at the Holiday Inn where they were hosting
a pizza & beer party. The invited all us Buick guys to stop by & join in.
First met club president Ron Kreig who said they would like to get
together next day in Beech Bend.& to quote Ron he said "so all you Buicks
can beat up on us". Ron also owns a T/R. Also met PR Director & Events
Cordinator David Johnson, also a T/R owner, who set things up after
we said "come on down"
Next day, sure enough, approx. 20 ZR-1's came buy & pitted together
in the circle track. There were ZR-1's from all years starting in the '90's
& included a brand new supercharged one. NICE !!!
All these guys are not just show & shine owners but also those who had no
problem beating & blasting them down the drag strip against each other & us guys.
If they were not in a Corvette you would think they were Buick guys
by the way they presented them selves, perfectly blended in, & mixed up with
with us. They said they wanted to do this again.
These cars are understandingly slow off the line but their top end charge
is something to behold. 12 & 11 second cars with trap speeds over
130 mph.
So what we are looking into & considering is inviting them to our
2010 (30th anniversary) Nats. with dates to be booked in a week or so.
Their inclusion in no way will interfere or affect our race & show programs but only
will add to the interest, fun & an added attraction at the event.
Next year they want us to display a T/R or Big Block V8 on the Corvette
museum's turntable & are also thinking of hosting a big food & drink get
together for all of us on Saturday nite. The museum has always been
good to us by offering discounted tickets & a special parking
area for "Buicks Only".
The feedback received about having them join us this year was
nearly 100% positive from those attendees & participants who offered
their opinions & thoughts.
So if things progress & a plan is devised, look forward to seeing
them again in BG next year. More info later.
For next year we are also planning some big additional things to
add to celebrate our 30th anniversary Also more info on this to follow.
