I have a '68 GS400 automatic. The car runs 190 degrees on the hwy. In town, as long as you are moving (engine RPMs up), runs aruound 200 degrees. On a real
hot day numbers will be up a bit.
However if the car sets at idle it is fine for 3 or 4 minutes, and then the temp gauge starts climbing up to 230 region, I dont know what would happen if I let it continue. It has stock fan setup without clutch, 4 blade fan blade. It also has a Permacool electric fan on the grill side blowing in to the radiator. I turn it on when I think think the temps are going to rise. Does no good. I have not tested the thermostat, but plan on going to a 160 degree thrermostat. Will this help? I also plan on a new water pump. The car has a couple thousand miles on an overhaul stock spec. Timing is set to factory recommendation and has Petronix Electronic Ign. And lastly, when the heat gauge is at or heading to 230 degrees, if I rev the engine, the temp starts to
go down quickly. Appreciate any help I can get!!!! Thanks.
